Testing principle
The analysis of ammonia nitrogen in water quality adopts the sensing principle of ammonia sensing electrode. Add NaOH solution to the sample, mix thoroughly, and adjust the pH value of the sample to>12. At this point, all ammonium ions are converted into gaseous NH3. In addition, add chelating agents such as EDTA to adjust the sample and prevent the formation of calcium salt precipitation.
The free ammonia gas passes through a semi permeable membrane (made of Teflon) and enters the interior of the ammonia sensing electrode to participate in chemical reactions, changing the pH value of the electrolyte inside the electrode. The change in pH value is linearly related to the concentration of NH3, which is sensed by the electrode and converted into the concentration of NH4-N by the host.
